Guide to Fishing
Fishing seems to scale up along with the difficulty of the zone.
A basic formula is the skill divided by the number of levels,
that is 300 divided by 60 gives you 5 points per level. If you
break that down and compare it to the difficulty of various
zones, say every 10 levels, it is easy to find the areas in
which you need to fish in order to progress. The following chart
breaks down the level ranges of the zone versus the fishing
skill level at which the zone becomes trivial.
Zone Level Ranges:
1-10 to 50
11-20 to 100
21-30 to 150
31-40 to 200
41-50 to 250
51-60 to 300
Since the interface doesn�t list the green and gray level
for each zone, this isn�t to say you won�t still
get skill-ups after reaching a certain skill. Simply, you will
have a better chance at skill-ups if you move on to the next
zone level range. If you try to fish in an area too far above
your skill you will not see many skill-ups either.
For Horde skill-ups, being Tauren, I used the following
progression:
Thunder Bluff to 50, the Barrens to 100, Hillsbrad Foothills to
150, Desolace to 200, Tanaris to 250 (pausing to do the
Dustwallow marsh quest at 225), Western Plaguelands to 300.
Playing on a PvP server, I tried to choose areas in which I
wouldn�t get jumped while fishing. The newb areas would
obviously change by race and there are alternate zones to use.
This was just personal preference.
Plus fishing items, such as nightcrawlers or bright baubles, do
not seem to affect the rate of skill-ups. They simply allow you
a better chance to catch something in a zone above your skill.
If you consistently get �Your fish got away!�
messages, either use a plus fishing item or try a zone closer to
your skill level.
The trainers for the various fishing titles for the Horde are as
follows:
Apprentice � any starting city, max skill of 100
Journeyman � any starting city, available at skill 50,
max skill of 150 Expert � Old Man Heming in Booty Bay
sells a manual entitled �Expert Fishing � the Bass
and You� � usable at skill 125, max skill of 225
Artisan � Speak with Lumak, the fishing trainer, in
Orgrimmar, who will in turn send you to Nat Pagle in Dustwallow
Marsh. You need to be level 40 and
225 skill to get the quest. After you collect 4 different fish
for him, you will be able to skill-up to 300.
The only difference for the Alliance, besides the progression
zones, is the guy that sends you for the Artisn fishing quest.
